Genesis was starting to go the way of pop-rock when this album was released. Sadly, IMHO, this album marks the end of Genesis' best music. The days of "Selling England by the Pound", "Seconds Out" , "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway", Foxtrot and other earlier releases are gone. So was Peter Gabriel, replaced by the vocals of (drummer) Phil Collins. Many "newbies" to the music of Genesis will probably appreciate their later stuff, but in my mind this album represents the last of the band's early (and best) days. A Trick of the Tail seems to be a transition album from the wilder, more creative, eclectic, exploratory music that Genesis was known for to the more mainstream, pop rock & roll that became their MO during the latter part of their career. The band's original members were beginning to move-on to other pursuits, and (to me) this album represents the the end of the original era. This is a good album, and certainly worthy of any Genesis collection; but be warned, if your a fan of "early" Genesis (especially when Peter Gabriel was around) this is in my opinion the last of their most creative work.Read full review

My son has recently been invited by a friend to a show "Tribute to Genesis" and discover this group. He realy appreciate their sound that he never hear before. He tell me that he was interested to buy an album. I have search and find this one. Because he study music, my son search new sound and appreciate all kind of music. Even if he prefer metal and rock, he have an open mind for a lot of type of music. Progressive rock is a new kind for him and Genesis represent a good exemple of sweet sound.I hope he will be happy to hear a good old album from a good old group at a low price.
This , to me is Genesis's best record hands down . The first without Peter Gabrial where Phil Collins stepped up to sing . It came out in 1976 and I had it on vinyl . Deep intense story line lyrics that tell tales where life lessons can be learned . I saw them in 77 on the Wind & Wuthering tour and they played it all from this record . What a show , fantastic light show , duel drummers with a flawless performance . Even though they had immense pop success in the 80's , there's nothing that even compares to this . It amazes me how people who consider themselves Genesis fans have no idea this record ever existed .
This is the first effort of the band without Peter Gabriel, and features Phil Collins on all vocals. Made long before Genesis became his backup band, all the other members, Hackett, Rutherford, and Banks joined Collins in creating the music for this work. Phil's percussive talents are also on display, particularly in the overture to the album, ironically placed as a finale titled, "Los Endos." Its dynamic range is so broad that it was used for auditorium soundchecks, and will give your speakers a real workout. A true Genesis classic!
Very Happy with this product. Shipped quickly like I was told. I am very satisfied.
