SynopsisProvides details about the career of the Oak Ridge Boys, the singing legend that started as the Georgia Clodhoppers. This work presents the story of a legendary quartet; and details about the behind the scenes and life backstage; the disappointments and the successes of one of the greatest gospel and country acts of all time; and more., Nineteen-seventy-three was a watershed year for American music, because the already refined sound of the Oak Ridge Boys quartet matured into the legendary four-part harmony that set the entertainment world on fire.Gospel had enjoyed their talent for years. Now, Richard Sterban's bottomless bass, Joe Bonsall's distinctive tenor, Duane Allen's resonant lead, and William Lee Golden's soulful baritone converged and started a blaze that still burns - in stadiums, arenas, and concert halls across America.Building on their three decades' worth of success, the group is going strong - making music, loving family, friends, and fans. Their story is inspiring and American through-and-through. Faith. Joy. Tears. Memories. Most of all, eyes ever set on the future. This collection of gorgeous photographs, sweet memories, and the oaks' own Joe Bonsall's behind the scene narrative will be treasured by the group's legion of fans.
This is overall a great book, well written, full of beautiful pictures, love, faith, and some humorous stories. For any true Oak Ridge Boys fan, a must have. For over 35 years I have been buying Oak Ridge Boy's music and going to their shows. As fans, when asked to accept Steve Sanders taking William Lee Golden's place, we did. When asked to welcome William Lee Golden back, we so DID, because he is the heart and soul of the group (in my opinion). I was glad to read Joe Bonsall address Steve Sander's death, it's the only time I have read anyone from the group talk about it. Now, part of the Oak Ridge Boy's enormous success has been their outstanding power driven live show, that started with the award winning Mighty Oaks Band. In fact some of them are shown on album covers, as well as pictures in this book with President Bush, and traveling abroad. So why not even a mere mention of Skip Mitchell, Don Breland, Fred Satterfield, B. James Lowry, or Dewey Dorough? I will always be a fan and I guess there are reasons just like in any family that some things are left unsaid.
