Original nes game but portable. The password is still used but it will save the last password so you can start the game up with all items you had without manually typing in the password every time so that's a plus. The game has slowdown issues like the original but I figured with the better processor in the GBA,DS,etc. would solve this but it doesn't. The game also seems to have a small issue with the background/walls changing color a little bit when jumping, not a big deal but noticeable. It seems the game's enemies don't cheap shot you as much when going through doors and it appears the doors close faster behind you after entering, both are good things. Buy it & enjoy it like you did years decades ago.
I never played the original metroid on the NES, but I am extremely glad I've been given the opportunity to play it on the Game Boy Advance. It's truly one of the most difficult games I've ever played, and after a while of playing, you start to learn to familiarize yourself with the different rooms and passages. Some enemies I was barely able to combat without dying eventually become very familiar and much easier with strategy, practice, and upgrading your weapons and energy of course. I'm also really glad it has the sleep mode option (which the game boy systems don't automatically do when closed) since I often have to keep trying difficult areas repeatedly and entering the password in order to continue your game progress. Beautiful music and great creature designs.
First, it is a near first emulation of the original. There's might be some slight glitches and some subtle noticeable delays in the controls. It is a very hard game. There are no save points. You do not get to respawn with full health. No matter how many energy tanks you have, you spawn with 30 pts and at the last area (not room) entrance. Maneuvering through the shafts is tedious. Collecting health points is tedious. You will most likely take on more damage than you gain if you go right for the strategy of killing and collects health points. Can not shoot down or kneel to shoot, so you cannot hit anything below the chest. take it as a challenge and expertise in dodging enemies.
One of the best NES games ever made. Very replayable. Now I get to share it with my son and daughter.
