When Elvis Presley returned back to civilan life in March 1960, after a 2-year stint in the U.S. Army, he resumed his popular movie career. 2 of the films he starred in, "G.I. Blues" and "Blue Hawaii", had him playing a soldier in the Army. His second film from 1962, "Kid Galahad", also featured him in this type of role, in this remake of a 1937 movie of the same name. Elvis stars as Walter Gulick, recently discharged from military service, who returns to his birth-town of Cream Valley, New York, aspiring to become a full-fledged automotive mechanic. He stumbles into the quiet town, where he meets Willie Grogan (Gig Young), who operates Grogan's Gaelic Gardens, assisted by Lew Nyack (Charles Bronson), a has-been trainer of up-and-coming, aspiring boxers. Willie's girlfriend is Dolly Fletcher (Lola Albright), who becomes quite impatient for Willie to ask for her hand in marriage. Willie's sister Rose (Joan Blackman) comes out to visit, where she eventually meets Walter. Willie has Walter step into the boxing ring with a sparring partner, where it is discovered that he has quite a powerful right-hand punch, which knocks out his opponent. Willie dubs Gulick the nickname of "Kid Galahad". Further complicating matters is the fact that Walter and Rose have fallen in love with each other. The movie was filmed on location in Idyllwild, California and is noted for having a strong supporting cast. Most critics rate it as one of Presley's best performances. For his role, Elvis was trained by the legendary Mushy Callahan, who also has a cameo in the film. Elvis sings 6 songs, including "King Of The Whole Wide World". This is a fantastic movie! Great music, duh, it's Elvis, of course the music is great! Wonderful supporting cast, Charles Bronson, Gig Young, etc,etc.. everything about this movie is perfect. When I received this movie it was in perfect shape. Plays perfect & case & movie look brand new even though they are used. This was a great buying experience for me. I love Half.com. Pat Young
