Academy Award-winning director Michael Moore examines the Bush administration's financial ties to Saudi Arabia and the bin Laden family in FAHRENHEIT 9/11, a well-researched, fast-paced, highly controversial, and important documentary that won the Palme d'Or at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. Using actual footage and declassified documents, Moore takes a detailed look into political events both before and after the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, beginning with the polarizing Supreme Court decision that ultimately gave the state of Florida and the 2000 election to George W. Bush. Moore reveals how the U.S. government helped the bin Laden family return to Saudi Arabia immediately after September 11, when all other flights were still grounded; and examines military recruiting techniques in such poor areas as his own hometown of Flint, Michigan. He even attempts to get congressmen to enlist their own sons and daughters into the military. The writer-director also visits with the troops, including at a VA hospital where soldiers are having second thoughts about America's involvement in Iraq, and spends time with a family whose eldest son is fighting in Iraq. FAHRENHEIT 9/11 is a worthy successor to Moore's previous documentaries, ROGER & ME, THE BIG ONE, and BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE, once again shining a light on the past, present, and future of the US.
Always controversial, Michael Moore focuses his attention on the Bush administration. He begins with the Florida election fiasco, followed by the September 11th tragedy. Instead of professing what Bush did or did not do, Moore provides footage of broadcasts and airport logs to depict what actually happened. One issue being the government's assistance in flying Bin Laden's family out of the US. Another interesting moment is that Bush was reading to an elementary school class when he learned the US was under attack on September 11th ... we are shown footage of him being told BUT continuing to sit there and read to the school children. Additionally, Moore tackles military recruitment practices and lives effected by the Iraq war.
The documentary is told in a familiar Moore style -- witty, sarcastic, informative, and truly human. I enjoyed the film for providing me with an aggregated view of certain events so that I can form my own opinion. If politics and world events are of interest, I recommend this film. Whether you are a Bush fan or not, I think this film is worth watching. Certain scenes depict graphic images that I would not recommend for children.Read full review
I will be the first to admit that Moore is a very entertaining and witty individual. Honestly in this day and age people need whole truths, not agenda truths. Is the Bush administration perfect? No. Was the Clinton administration perfect? No. Does this movie contain absolute true facts? NO. Sadly, alot of brainless individuals praise this film because they simply hate George W. Bush and they desperately want to believe everything in this film and have nightmares that any of it would be disputed with actual facts (which it has). Some of the people in the movie didn't even know they were in the film and were outraged that purchased footage of themselves was presented falsely. I will say this is a great film for people who lack the ability to think for themselves. Word to the wise: investigate everything you watch, conservative or liberal, republican or democrat, no matter leaning to the left or right, investigate what you are being told. If you bought this one hook, line and sinker I ask you this, If Moore's next movie was about how fecal matter made a tasty breakfast treat, would think twice or have a bite?Read full review
Dont miss this news worthy presentation... It will shock you that it was never reported in mainstream media...
Has some important info which never made it to regular media reporting services... The truth has had a chance to make to it to peoples attention finally....
It was a very eye opening film of the events prior, during and after 9/11. I like the way Moore displays information on how our government could have had a hand in the attack on 9/11. He gives very good information which support this idea. I love the way he tried to get the congressmen to send their kids to Iraq since they support the war. I like how Moore had clips of the people directly affected by the "War on Terror" and not only from the American viewpoint but the Iraqi people as well. The news should show some interviews with people from Iraq who witnessed the "terror" that they are all experiencing. We are all human (equal) and need to see each other as humans and not as Americans or Iraqis, etc. I think that is what Michael Moore is trying to say in this film. I rented this movie first and had to have it so I could allow other people to watch it as well. I also watched Fahrenhype 9/11 and honestly did not understand what their arguement was against Fahrenheit 9/11. Their opinions weren't presented in way that made sense and it just seemed like they were hired by the people Moore exposed to discredit Moore by any means possible. They did not do a good job. Anyway if you enjoy not being ignorant, watch this film.Read full review
