The movie setting takes place in Georgia during the 1960s when racial tensions were high and social status among Caucasians was prevalent. A deaf mute man touches the lives of many due to his kindness and concern for the well-being of others. Overtime, people from both races came to trust him and naturally confided in him because they sensed his genuineness. (He read lips.) The movie is both educational and entertaining because it demonstrates the struggles that blacks, whites and handicapped individuals faced during a difficult time in American history, and how one individual helped them overcome their personal struggles by attending to their needs. The movie also showed the struggles that handicapped people face- the rejection, loneliness and despair that comes with being different from others. This movie is a definite must-see.Read full review
