A Timeless Movie and Character For Stallone
Some 10 yrs later, Stallone has here with 'First Blood' essentially done a re-make of Tom Laughlin's 'Billy Jack.' Both are Vietnam vets, both are expertly trained ex-Green Berets, both have some form of what today is called 'PTSD,' both go up against and generally tear up the local sheriff and town. One of the redneck deputies from 'Billy Jack' is a redneck deputy in 'First Blood.' Both movies are set in the Pacific Northwest. 'First Blood' is the better movie of the too - straight action and less preaching. Stallone would go further and make many more films than 'Billy Jack' actor Tom Laughlin (including Stallone getting an Oscar for 'Rocky'), and in a fight one-on-one I'd probably bet on Rambo. Too bad they never partnered up and made some movies, the way some of these actions stars have done. That would have been kick-a@@!
