If you like to sew for dolls, you will love this book. This author has several books and I've enjoyed all of them. Patterns are true to size and easy to construct. Complete easy to follow instructions are included. The book contains several patterns, much cheaper than buying individual patterns. My only suggestion would be that if you are purchasing a used book, check the description to make sure all the patterns are in the book. If it doesn't say, then ask before purchasing. I purchased a copy of this book previously from a different dealer and discovered too late that the patterns were missing. Often the sellers purchase from an estate sale, etc., and may not know about pattern pieces. I don't think it was intentional.
This is a great instruction manual for sewing clothing for 18" American Girl-type dolls. Full-scale patterns are included for each article of clothing. Directions are very clear, but some basic sewing knowledge is useful. This is the second Joan Hinds doll clothing book I've purchased. In both books, Hinds' designs are contemporary--much preferred by my 9-year-old daughter/doll owner than the old-fashioned, fussy, ruffled, pleated outfits often featured in other books and patterns. These small outfits use very little fabric and sew up very quickly. This is a very economical way to clothe your daughter's, granddaughter's, niece's, etc., doll in style. And you can continue to reuse the patterns using different fabrics and notions to create your own original fashions.
I have a collection of books by Ms Hinds. Because clothing for the 18"American Girl dolls is so expensive, I choose to sew these items for my grand-daughters' dolls. I was pleased to find a new pattern book for more current clothing designs. The patterns included with the book and the easy to understand, photo enhanced instructions make this book a fun and easy way to sew beautiful clothing for the popular 18" dolls. I look forward to any future books from this author.
Clear, glossy photos of the finished product plus step by step photos and directions for each garment, and full size patterns make this a great buy. There are also tips for fitting adjustments in the front of the book, and other sewing tips throughout the book. Great book!
