This book takes a look into a time during the rein of King Luis the IVII when many people of upper nobility and lower ranking people were cast into a "box" labeled evil. A few people doing wrong and investing in the black arts but many people condemmed to death for it. One high ranked lady convicted so that left lots of people under suspission even one of the kings favorites. Good book with lots of historical references but you do need to stay focused while you read this...not particularly an easy read but a good one.
This is an excellent book on the court life under the French kings. If you thought that politics were twisted in the twenty-first century; try adding in the strong belief in witches and witchcraft. All you needed to bring an opponent down in those days was an unprovable allegation of poison and witchcraft and the ability to torture the "truth" out of your enemies. I would recommend this book to anyone who is studying politics as an insight into why things are the way they are and how propaganda can work in your favor, even in these enlightened days.
This is the kind of stuff that breathes life into history . Ive read it before and liked it very much and wanted it in hard back .
A perfect marriage of history and storytelling. Even readers who aren't partial to non-fiction would really enjoy this book.
