This is a great quick read for those working or participating in some sort of formal organization such as a school or business environment. The concept is simple: keep "filling" the buckets of other people by praising them, and your own bucket will "fill" as a result. In other words, do unto others as you would have done to you. Although this stuff is common sense, we all know that these principles aren't always followed. So, this is a great reminder for everyone that they need to praise and compliment others to keep everyone in an organization happy and productive.
Read it and this book will change your life and the lives of the people you interact with. Backed by many scientific studies "How Full is Your Bucket" gives powerful and yet simple ways to improve relationships you have with your spouse, your children, people at work and anyone else you deal with. It makes life more fun. Did you know that a North Korean POW camp for Americans had the highest death rate in US history, yet there was relatively no physical torture and the Americans were give adequate food, clothing and shelter? Even though there weren't any guards or barbed wire around the camp, not one soldier tried to escape. The author explains the power of negative and positive feedback and acknowledges the value of both, but in the proper ratio. I have given copies of this book to many people and have seen it save marriages. It absolutely helped save my relationship with my son. With about 120 some pages and large font a slow reader can finish it in 90 minutes. Don't let the funny title fool you. This is a "must read" and is in my top 3 favorite books read in the last 20 years. Treat yourself and those you love to a happier life, get this book!Read full review
At my middle school, we are using this book to motivate and stay motivated. Each teacher has a bucket on his/her desk and we all try to put a drop of good tidings in someone's bucket on a regular basis. In addition, we have three traveling buckets that are presented by the prior winning staff member to a new one for good things they have done. My daughter-in-love has leukemia and we have buckets to put in the leukemia ward patients' rooms so that when they are "down" and no one is there with them, they can visit the drops in their buckets to cheer them! This has been a great motivational tool!
I found this book extremely easy to read. It provided me data-driven that a positive attitude and the spread of such is vitally important in any type of relationship. It also tells you that they type of praise you provide to each person is as important as providing that praise, whether it be verbal, written, public or private. What I found interesting was that not everyone wants to receive praise the same way I would. Read this book!
This is an amazing book. I also bought the CD to this book so I can listen at work. If more companies, more bosses, more husband and wives would take to hear this book then everyones bucket will be full. Everyone needs to be encoruaged and appreciated. Most employees are taken for granted and not appreciated which causes discouragement and job burn out. Buy this book and buy it for others. I have shared my CD with several people. They love it.
