John McClane (Bruce Willis) is a NYC cop with a real sweetheart of a wife, who lives 3000 miles away in LA. It's Christmas, and he is flying to LA for a rare opportunity to see his family. His wife has invited him to an office party where she works. John arrives without incident, but soon after, the party is crashed by a gang of foreign thieves after a fortune in bearer bonds. Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) is the leader of the thieves who present themselves as terrorists. This elaborate plan is to buy time, and to also put into motion a complex set of steps to bypass an electronic locking system that will open the vault where the bonds are stored. This movie is filled with nonstop action. Problem is, nobody is so unlucky to stumble into this kind of problem. In fact, for the likelihood of a NYC cop to be here at this time, in LA is a real stretch. McClain is real good. With a pistol he hits everything that he shoots at, and has unlimited clips of bullets, while everyone else, all armed with Uzi's, can't hit him. Barefoot, through a hail of bullets, he runs through enough broken plate glass to make two dozen men bleed to death, but just like the Energizer Bunny, he just keeps on going. Whether he is beat up, cut up, or shot, he always is good as new just moments later. All right, enough action criticism! Lets look at the robbery plan. First they have to secure the building. Then kidnap the hostages. Get the head guy to give up the electronic safe codes, or get the cops to buy the "Terrorist Angle" and call in the SWAT team and their Armored Personnel Vehicle. Of course, the thieves have C4 explosives and rocket launchers just in case this happens. Also, planing on this happening, the FBI gets called in. They can do anything. . .BUT - decide to cut the power right there, at just the right place to kill the alarm defenses and release the safety locks on the vault containing the bearer bonds! WHEW! . . . What a Plan! Why are these guys stealing ? With this kind of talent and smarts any government, or even the CIA would hire them! In Reno they would refer to this as trying to make your bet the hard way. . . All of this "over the top" type action takes away from the story, but it still was entertaining. This movie would have been more enjoyable with some more intelligent cop work, than so many special effects.Read full review
Die Hard is An awesome action film, Willis is Superb Quite possibly the absolute best Action Movie ever made. Bruce Willis is absolutely killer as John McClane. The supporting cast is great, the action scenes are innovative and action packed, and the plot is superb. John McClane is my favorite action hero of all-time and if you haven't seen Die Hard, he will be yours the second you do. Die Hard is the best movie in the Trilogy, but it's so hard to rank the Diehard films because they are all so spectacular. Final Verdict: 5/5 Rent or Buy?: Definitely buy this movie, but buy it with the other 2 in the box set and save yourself some money. IF YOU FIND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE.
