Danny Kaye at His Best
The Court Jester (Danny Kaye) and Casanova's Big Night (Bob Hope) are the best classic comedy swashbucklers. The Court Jester follows Hawkins, an entertainer who's habit of impersonating the notorious black fox (Robin Hood type) ends up running him on a patriotic quest to infiltrate the false kings castle, overthrow the court and restore the rightful king to the throne. Along the way are the typical songs and facial expressions that made us fall in love with Danny's entertainment style. Glynis Johns, Basil Rathbone and Angela Lansbury add to this delightful tale. Overall a light-hearted, timeless, family-friendly, adventure that features one of the funniest fight scenes in cinematic history. Typically sells for $10 on DVD.

I only found out about this movie recently, and I just decided to get it before it was to be gone forever. Danny Kaye is amazing. He can sing, dance, and act. The supporting cast is great as well. Some younger audiences might think it's a little corny, but my 13 year old grand daughter loved it! Court Jester reminds us that this will look like leftovers from a Renaissance Faire, but the costuming and choreography are superb.
Danny Kaye is allowed to steal the show from Basil Rathbone.Apparently Ralph B. Faulkner was not just the fencing master for the film, but continued within it as a stunt double. The dueling scene is the most legendary, but the footwork and comedic genius of Kaye was also hilarious during the process of becoming a "knight" and surviving a joust.
