The directorial debut of Harold Ramis, who starred in "Stripes," is not only hilarious, but he couldn't have picked a funnier film project to make his debut on. CADDYSHACK, which features Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, Sarah Holcomb and Chevy Chase, takes place at the snooty country club owned by Judge Snell (Knight). When Al (Dangerfield) makes his appearance in the clubhouse, the laughs really pick up. Judge Snell, who is instantly offended by Al's cracks, really makes himself look like a total idiot and challenges Al and Ty to a golf game where it goes as high as $80K. On the other hand, Danny Noonan goes about doing his duty and really ticks the judge off by teaming with Ty - after Al gets struck by a golf ball (ooh, that has got to smart) that takes a bad ricochet and strikes him in the upper arm - and proceeds to sink the winning putt while Carl (Bill Murray) proceeds to literally destroy the golf course while in pursuit of a pesky gopher. In all, this screwball comedy is certainly worth owning, whether it is on VHS or on DVD.Read full review
You don't need to enjoy golf to watch this movie. It is funny, especially with Rodney Dangerfield's one liners. Add into the mix Chevy Chase and Bill Murray and you have a classic funny movie.
