This movie is eye candy! It's one of my favorites. Beautiful scenery, great looking lead actors, it's just pure escapism. Granted it's not Academy award material, but the plot is interesting, + the costumes are creative. The musical score by Basil Poledouris (who also did the music in "Summer Lovers", another favorite of mine),is great. The cinematography by Nestor Almendros is outstanding. The tropical scenery is like a picture postcard. You won't find better photography than this. This particular edition of the DVD has a Director's cut with the director, the writer + Brooke Shields telling you all the inside info about the movie. It also has a Director's cut with Christopher Atkins. So if you liked the movie, you'll have hours of fun with this edition. It also has a photo album of photos taken by Brooke. I loved some of the outfits Brooke wore. Like the white ruffled shirt. Most of the time, she's strategically covered up in the film so what little nudity it has, is relatively tame as compared with today's films. I believe the film covers budding sexuality in a tastefully done way. I only wish they'd make a full size poster of this DVD cover, as it is nicer than the original posters and one sheets of this film. I highly recommend seeing this one. So when there's 3 feet of snow on the ground, pop some popcorn, slather on the self tanner, break out the pina coladas, and plop down on the couch so a fun time in the tropics!Read full review
This movie was worth watching. The cinematography and musical score was excellent and story line and actors were very good.

So, like everyone else my age, I was not allowed to see this as a kid. Now, 38 years later, it is the tamest, most Swiss Family Robinson adventure you can possibly imagine. However. The tears will start. This film is beautiful, wonderful, magical and an overwhelming emotional escape. The reasons why I had to "pray" for those involved at Catholic school in 1980 still does not make sense. This film is abosolutely wonderful. Brooke and Chris are lovely and so sweet - there is nothing "scandalous" or upsetting - it is pure coming-of-age which will leave you in tears and reaching for the gin.
