I just finished reading this book. I couldn't put this down. It's such a sad story of the neglect that Tatum suffered growing up, put-down and even hitting by her father, an alcoholic mother, children raising themselves, and major drug abuse. Throughout this book, Tatum is very positive. For all she suffered, she is a TRUE survivor and an example to others. Tatum's life with John McEnroe was one of those on / off beautiful love stories. This book goes into the problems that can occur with divorce, pre-nuptial agreements, and extreme differences in child-rearing. The book I read was borrowed. I'm buying one for my 21 yr. old daughter and another for her dad. I was truly inspired by the courage of the child and woman Tatum O'Neal and I highly recommend this book.Read full review

The O'Neal family would seem to have it all, they are intelligent, beautiful and wealthy. Their one big flaw it that they are all (including Tatum) unbelievably self absorbed. This flaw seems to wipe out all their advantages. I felt the book was an attempt by Tatum to make excuses for her own self absorbtion by pointing out how self absorbed the rest of her family was. Hopefully her three children will beat the self absorbed cycle and lead happy lives.
A very informative book. An awesome biography. The book is laid out in such a way that the story never lags. I am now excited to read the second book that has been written by Tatum O'Neal.
