Britain's relentless colonialism led them to the Iranian oil fields at the turn of the century. They built the world's largest oil refinery at Abadan and enslaved the "natives" to do the menial labor. They plundered the country's natural resource (oil) for many years and rendered the Iranians to a life of poverty. The Shaw was given a mere pittance of the profits to sustain his approval. When the great Iranian leader, Mossadegh came into power in the 1950's, he quickly nationalized Iran's oil and kicked the British out. Outraged, Prime Minister Churchill appealed to President Truman for help in re-establishing the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. Truman declined, but when Dwight D. Eisenhower became president of the United States things would be very different. Here is the fascinating story of what happened, and why the Iranians have despised the United States ever since. A truly spell-binding book, and a must-read for anyone wishing to understand the roots of Middle-East hatred of the United States.Read full review

Great book! Provides much detailed and needed info on the subject matter. The author does a great job on providing sound arguments that are very centrist and not so biased as opposed to other books.

The book was easy to read. The only thing I found frustrating is that is tells the ending sort-of and then you read how it happened. But it is an easy read.
