Extreme is another hair band that came out in the 80's. They're best known for More Than Words, but that doesn't really capture what they're really about. They're a 80's hair metal band that started out on MTV with the video Kid Ego, which is a decent rock tune for back then. Their best ballad on this album is Watching Waiting which foreshadows their future success writing ballads. The best song on this album is the anthem Mutha (Don't Wanna Go To School Today). It brings back memories of when I was in high school, and the way I felt a lot days my senior year after I had worked at a Dairy Queen until midnight the night before. Nuno Bettencourt shows his Eddie Van Halen like chops on this song (and also on Play With Me), and turned him into a guitar God overnight. He refined his technique on subsequent albums, and showed why he was one of the best guitar players in the 80's. Their debut album is decent and gave us a taste of what they can do. They had a lot of poppy hooks like Wind Me Up and Little Girls. Overall they're good musicians and songwriters. I don't know why Extreme broke up, I saw a special on VH1 that tried to get them back together for a gig but Nuno declined. I guess he either had enough fame or he disliked his bandmates, I don't know but they were a band that had enough substance that they could have been around a while. They were appealing both commercially and to musicians, so I don't know what the problem was. Maybe they got stuck in rut songwriting wise like many musicians of the 80's, maybe they gave us their best and couldn't come up with any new material that was good enough, I don't know. Gary Cherone later joined Van Halen for one album. I thought it would've been a commercial success because Extreme was still quite popular at the time, and Van Halen was one of rock giants at the time, but the album flopped and that was it for Gary in Van Halen. If they decided to get back together, I'd go out and buy Extreme's new album. Their four albums that they released were decent enough that I would think that they could offer us something with substance. Whether they ever will or not I don't know, but we're left with what they have and this album is a pretty good debut effort. They came out with better tunes later, but this is a nice album that showcases a good hair metal band from the 80's.Read full review

I asked for Pornograffitti for my birthday back in the 90s and have always enjoyed it. I recently bought Extreme III on line and it was great! After that, I looked for their first LP / CD and bought this one. What a great band! Kudos!
This is their 1st and best CD!! Every song is GREAT!! If you don't have this CD...Get it!! From beginning to end, some of the best, fun and funky rock there is!!
Been looking for this release for some time..just wasn't available anywhere else & found it here. See, Ebay is good for something (besides fees) after all
This CD tears it up and spits it back out. Almost all of their tracks have rip-roaring guitar solos, along with that 80's power feeling in the vocals. If you enjoyed the 80's power/speed scene, get this CD!
This album is a very good choice for the metal lover because of the serious riffage of the guitars. A very good choice!!!
