I grew up in NY and was in the military in the early 70s when Kojak was first aired on TV. I loved the show from day one. The characters were great and the weekly episodes were worth waiting for. When I saw the show had made it to DVD I bought season one out of curiosity and a trip down memory lane. Much to my surprise almost 50 years later the show still comes across as engaging and fun to watch. I’ll buy the remaining seasons and know they will get a workout because the show was that good and still captures your attention even after all these years later. “Who loves ya, baby?”

I LOVE this DVD set! ❤️ The shows bring me back to the way back then of the 70s, the regular run of the mill cars - and the CLASSIC cars of old, the clothing, the way that people acted back then being so different from how that we act today, THE SHOWS WITHOUT TONS OF SWEARING (so far), the scripts of 70s drama and action filming, the "HEAVY CHEVY/LEAD SLED" CAR CHASES. It's all there in full color smiling at you and leaving you being for more! I bought these because of my love for the show that I remember from before I was ten years old, but mostly because I LOVE watching movies that will toss in a '70 Chevelle, a '65 Mustang, a '72 Caddy... The list goes on and on. It's like having a treasure hunt for things that you may catch in glimpses or in long drawn frames - you just never know what you may see from show to show. And hey, who can beat ol' Telly Savalas, huh? The main cast is wonderfully chosen, no wonder the shows ran on TV for so many years (not to mention these DVDs). I do. The Kojak television series about the case by case work of New York City homocide police detective Theo Kojak is great television. The first season of the series was filmed on location in New York City and that is one of the things that makes these programs great. The characters are interesting, diverse and believable, in particular, the bald, Greek, lollipop-sucking tough guy, Kojak. The quality of the film technique is another. Much of the cinematography is superior to what you'd expect of television serials. The look,sound and acting make this series worth viewing and timeless. The stories are alright, but not great. More attention could have been paid to plot, but this may be a result of the limitations of television. The pop culture of the 1970's is on full display throughout these programs adding another dimension of interest to the shows for me, although some might find it off-putting, especially those too young to have experienced it. These 22 episodes of the Kojak television series are great entertainment. Highly recommended.Read full review
I hadn't really thought about this show until there was a marathon of Kojak on cable. As I watched the shows I realized how well done and what intriguing situations he was put in. It really is a great show. I will be buying the seasons for sure! Love that Telly Sevalas

The 1970's was loaded to the gills with cop shows. Kojak was a smash from the begining and for good reasons. It had solid writing and a wonderful cast of veteran character actors, talented new faces, Telly Savalis of course and the only thing that stole any of Savalis' thunder was New York itself which was approaching it's zenith of 70's decadence. Viewers glimpsed fun city in all of its dangerous, rough and tumble glory. The precinct offices that Kojak worked out of were wonderfully worn. This is the show that inspired all of the NY flavored cop shows that would come later. It was pleasant to find that these episodes hold up over 30 years later.
