Hard plastic does not a hiking foot-gear sole make
The uppers are much improved over the ones I've been wearing for 24 years now, but the soles were a big disappointment. The ad said that Nike always used rubber soles, which agreed with the original pair I bought in 1996 and am still wearing though they are heavily worn. This pair, however, as wonderful as the uppers were, had plastic soles, and they, like most plastics, did not take the years well and they have very little grip even on concrete - they really only do well in loose dirt. Within a few miles of walking, the left sole had split all the way across, creating a void for that part of my foot, and cracks had formed on the right. I have patched them with Shoo Goo and hope to get a few months of wear, but I have little doubt they will be tossed long before my originals. And I am disappointed in Nike.
