This is a fantastic book. It should be required reading for students. I am only half way through it due to finishing others. It is well written and flows easily from one era to another. I better understand the Civil war and how everyone suffered, especially women and children. This book while being very factual is an emotional ride through the pages and ages of time. I am now on a covered wagon going west. The rain has penetrated the canvas and everything Is getting wet. The children are restless, crowded and uncomfortable. Women, especially good cooks sometimes made more than their husbands mining for gold by selling plates of food to the hungry men ...and so the historical stories go from one adventure to another. I am loving it. Thanks for asking my opinion.
Very interesting. Not dry reading at all, but real stories cobbled together to create four hundred years of history of American Women.
