This is an exceptional device, especially if you have USB 3; however it works well with and improves the performance of USB 2. [If you don't have 3, then you add a PCI card for USB 3] I have the 4 port and 7 port models plus the power adapter. If you are using the new 1 & 2 TerraByte Thumb drives you will need the power adapter as those require more power for 'WRITE' functions. I bought 10 2-TB thumb drives and now have 8,000 movies stored on them as a back up - something I could never have done without this excellent product. I was able sort my movies as each drive gets assigned a separate drive letter and the drives can be named. One is labeled StarTrek and it contains every StarTrek Episode from Every Series ever made plus all of the StarTrek Movies (plus all of the Lost in Space and StarWars movies) this is still below the 10% level. [2 TB is really big.] I strongly recommend this product and have purchased 2 more as they are super convenient. One Bad feature - The power supply had to have an adapter to plug in to the wall. Hopefully thi will soon be corrected. Those lovely little switches are great as I can turn off the attached hard drives when I do not need them. Warning: Some other splitters advertised as 3.0 are not. You can tell because the USB is color coded: Blue for 3.0; white for 2.0 and black for the original 1.0. 3.0 is 5 times faster than 2.0. It pays to buy the HIGH QUALITY Complete set on this product.Read full review

I like the idea of it with on/off switches. I went back to SATA card that does not require an electric adapter. It does come with a USB adapter, but seems to require a USB 2.0 slot to run from.

The power supply leaves a lot to be desired. Feels cheap. Intermittent connectivity at higher loads. Power supply cable is VERY short, if you have a power strip on the floor and want this to rest on a computer desk, for example, it may not even have the length to do that. Overall, a good value, but if you need real performance, spend an extra $5-10 and get one with a more able power supply.

My laptop has two (2) USB ports, so I purchased a gang of four (4) microswitches which enables me to use one USB port to service 4 devices, such as a printer, an external hard drive, and a flash drive. I use the 4th port to charge various USB devices when needed, such as a blue tooth head phone device. Recommended for most laptop/notebook owners.

My keyboard only accommodates 2 USB drives but with this "switched" hub, I can have 4 drives available at the flip of a switch. It works great!
