Easy to set up and use. I was skeptical at the low price but the results are like whoa!!! Perfect for the beginner to slightly advanced, most experts will probably purchase a much higher end scope. I say this because at their level of expertise they want to dig deeper into the surface. Well worth the money!!!! I highly recommend this to all beginners, amateurs, even the novice. The unit is small so it's a space saver. The design is basic and simple so even your kids can use it.

Based on an evening of play with this toy, I found it to be disappointing. However, overall for the I am satisfied with what I got, as I did not expect much. It operates through a plastic lens permanently attached and nonadjustable. Mine had minute scratches already on it. The stand and travel rod are cheap plastic and the whole assembly wobbles when you touch it. Focusing is luck-based. There are three controls, one for video one for picture and a knurled, plastic focus ring that does work. There is a control on the cable to control the intensity of the lights builtin to the device. I found the viewing quality to be widely variable, and noticed that the output images are better quality than what you see live. Mostly it makes things look like cartoon versions, at least to my eye. Any surface with any height variance at all will be affected by focus, and focus is very difficult to fine tune, as the amount of pressure needed to turn the adjustment knob is also enough pressure to move the entire unit. It's more of a toy than a scientific device and while it does show scratches on say a coin face, it can' t show the fine details of the surface of a rock, as the surface is too uneven. The lights are a huge problem if the object is reflective, they wash out the image. The color is off on many objects with a purple hue to the image. It took a while to install, some of the commands/labels in the software are in Chinese. The software is very basic and took some time to figure out how to save an image. Every time I tried to save an image, Windows interrupted and asked what program I wanted to use to save the image, every time. That's because it's not a MS-recognized program. Anyway, this makes a good gift for an adult who wants to mess around with ultra-close images, but as a gift for a child, it would only frustrate them, as it is so crude. So I paid little for this and barely got that in value. It's cheaply made but works, but is not plug-n-play and not easy to setup and use software.Read full review

This microscope works well for it's price but the magnification as advertised is overstated. I examined a 0.5 cm object and took a jpeg snapshot. At 640x480 the jpeg at actual size displayed at 21 cm: 42 times larger. The image was sharp and I could enlarge it and overfill my 1920x1080 monitor screen many times over still with good clarity but I won't rate the displayed magnification factor. Anyway, it meets my needs and installed easily on my Windows 10 system (despite paltry instructions).

My husband and I use for coin collecting, and it shows it all. Convenient compact design but very good magnification. Easy operation with supplied disc for your computer. The device takes the strain out of your research allowing you to focus longer. If you have something you need to see for long periods of time you MUST have it.

These types of scopes magnify about 50 ish times, give or take a few. Not 1000x.
