I bought it because I am trying to learn the sign language, and needed something where I could look up words I needed for certain occasions that I did not already have the words for. The only disappointment was that I thought it was the main dictionary, but it was an abbreviated version of it, so it does not have all the words I need in it. It does have larger and more clear illustrations than the real whole dictionary has, however. It was my mistake. I didn't read well enough the description of it, I guess.
Living with my husband and his parents, I have spent years asking for signs so that I can say certain things to his deaf brother. Now, I do not have to ask someone else for signs! I can simply pull out my sign language dictionary and find out a sign for myself! YAY!

I bought this signing dictionary to expand on my 2 year old daughter's baby signs. She uses 30 or more signs that we learned from baby signing books, dvd's, etc. She uses signs to request what she wants and needs. She is still non-verbal and needs more signs in her vocabulary. This book has been helpful on some occasions, but not all the words I have looked for are included in this edition (such as yogurt). It is a good tool but not all-inclusive for our situation. The descriptions of how to do each sign are easy to follow and there is a drawing of a person signing each one.
i like it because it has alot of pictures to help make it easier to use , and seems to be very thuro and complete i do not have the best vision and sign language is very challenging to me because i dont like to focus on one thing so much and it just seems very hard to learn and i give up before i even try most of the time and the book being so thick is intimidating to me and makes me think it will take me weeks to learn how to read and use each sentance that i would use in a realistic situation also i dont like not being able to use my hands and eyes how i like while communicating the whole idea of sign language is like an overload to me i dont like the idea and i dont know anyone who would understand for me to use it with except my girlfriend wanted me to get this and was supposed to be trying to learn with me this is all because i had a laryngectomy and i am not able to speak for the rest of my life and i do not even breathe out of my mouth and nose any more and cant even whisper whistle spit nothing i cant even smell or sneese yawn or cough normal and after being alive for 23 years to loose my voice was just devistating and hard and i am 24 i have been this way for about 14 months and i think ill never be used to it its a whole dimention of expressing yourself volume tone speed all effect the way u communicate and writing reading sign language is just like going from 3d to 2d sometimes i feel no hope of being able to communicate freely and express myself as i once did although i never yet used this book it appears to me to be the perfect example of how a book like thi should be; complete, detailed with pictures, affordable, the only thing better than this would be if it came on dvd rom to show al lin moving pictures with tutorials how to put words together as scentances and sign grammar if that exsists and audio to help faster and easier teach the hearing people who want to learn sorry i didnt use the book more so i coulda made a more helpfull review but this is my best i reccomend it good luckRead full review
I'm just learning sign language and this dictionary is very helpful in refreshing my memory with signs that I learned in class but can't remember yet, especially since it has the illustration. It is more convenient to use the concise dictionary most times through the day because it is less bulky in size to carry, although sometimes it doesn't have a word that I need in it. In the long run it is very helpful and more convenient to use.
