The two soap bar humbucking pickups each have their own volume control and their active preamp has bass and treble adjustment. The piezo pickup in the bridge has a separate preamp and its own volume and tone controls. Put together, you have a tonal variety unmatched by other bass guitars in this price range. The neck-thru design feels amazing when going for those high notes, even if it is difficult to stay precise throughout the 2 1/2 octave scale on a fretless bass. Disclaimer: the one I purchased was a factory second, so it required some work in the form of redone soldering. It also wound up needing a piece of foam added to the rear control plate to keep the controls from grounding out on it. I do not have experience with a factory fresh model. Once those (cheap and easy to fix) problems were taken care of, I have not had any complaints in the subsequent year.Read full review

It feels it's the closest I could get to a stand up bass in an electric bass format. Just played a gig with it; I got comments like "exquisite tones". Just love it. Now I need to get back to working on intonation, but it's pretty easy thanks to the marks on the side of the neck. It's a pretty light bass too, easier on the back and shoulder.
