Overall, this Ubox in this 8th generation (gen) version, along with this authorized retailer Hope Overseas’ tech support, is worth the price we pay for it. The support reply I received about updating the system’s latest firmware was prompt and helpful. Compared to the box in its 3rd gen that I got a few years back, this 8th gen that I purchased just 2 weeks ago appears to run faster (but seemingly only after all the apps have come on to the screen); it also has a few extra features, and is pre-installed with a few updated/upgraded apps. Nonetheless, as with most electronic products, this box in its latest gen has a few minor inefficiencies that can be improved on. For instance, when turning the box on each time, the user is required to re-select his/her preferred breathing light color (other than the default blue) that flashes around the box. Another tech issue is with the bluetooth voice-capable AI remote control that comes with the purchase. Users should be forewarned that there would likely be WiFi interference if this bluetooth-based remote were to be operated in an environment (e.g., family room) in which many WiFi-capable devices (iPhones, iPads, printers) have their bluetooth turned on at the same time.Read full review

Product constantly received updates. It save me from boredom during the pandemic lock down. I use it to watch NetFlex and as my media player for my media collection using Kodi. It has a good choice for many media apps, but most of them are really targeted towards the Mainland China market. I could get other media player or Android set top boxes cheaper, but this one is very easy to use even for my elderly parents so why not? This is an extra unit that I get. My old 2nd gen box I bought years ago is still working fine and still receiving updates. Now that's real support, unlike the big $$$ hungry companies like M$oft keep asking you to flip over more dough all the time for their upgrades. I used to connect through an external USB DAC to go to my stereo, but for some reason, all a sudden it does not work with the DAC anymore. Now I have to go through the HDMI through the TV then the stereo. Not ideal, but it works. For music, I am using a separate Pi with Volumio to connect to my DAC then to my stereo. I bought thus new version just after two weeks purchased version 7. Because ot was good ! But this version 8, freeze and stack screen when I switching channel many times. I reset unit but still problem. Version 7 is working fine so not my network speed. Little bit disappointed...
