easy to read in direct sunlight for using to grill outdoors.
Our old meat thermometer had a red led display and was hard to read in sunlight, this new LCD meter is easy to read in direct sunlight, would have given 5 stars rating, but the displayed temp of the meat rises slowly, maybe because the temp metal probe is about twice the diameter of the old one and takes longer for the probe reach the temp of the meat.

Not Really Instant
Thermometer does work and eventually settles down to the reading the temperature of the meat. However if you are fixing to stop cooking the meat the moment the internal temperature reaches the ideal value, this is not the thermometer to use. So for example, when it reads 135F, the meat is actually at a higher temperature, the thermometer just has not gotten around to show it yet. Of course, one can learn to compensate for this delay by stopping at some lower temperature which is to be determined by trial and error.

A Nice Digital Thermometer.
Easy to use and legible Display, the Batteries last a long time. The 4 red rubber buttons get in the way and is easily triggered. I cut the red rubber nipples down in length with a nail clipper and leave the Power On nipple (Long) for easy shut-off. Good Price for a Digital Thermometer.

It's okay, but I wouldn't call it "instant read" as you must wait a few seconds to get an accurate temperature reading. It's one of those "you get what you pay for" items; if you desire true instant read, it's going to cost more.
