Tecsun S-8800 Pretty Nice!
At first, I had purchased the Tecsun PL-660 and was pretty impressed. However, a little too small for my big hands so I considered the old Tecsun S-2000 desktop. Not overly impressed with the reviews so I was looking for the more updated technnology. After researching the Tecsun S-8800 I decided to pull the trigger and get one even though it was a little more than I wanted to spend. It's portable but it's definitely not small. If your primary interests are listening to shortwave, then this radio is definitely a shortwave powerhouse you'll enjoy. I setup a decent outside receiving antenna system (which is crucial if you want to get the best out of the radio) and I can say I'm happy. After 2 weeks of ownership I've been able to tune into shortwave side band operators from "across the pond" as well as the USA. The remote control was a deal maker. Love to sit back and just tune in! The radio isn't perfect of course (tuning knob a bit sloppy when fine tuning, a few other picky things) but for the most part, it's a keeper.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Overall very happy with the S-8800 for long listening sessions on MW, SW, SSB, and FM
Easy listening audio on SW for long periods which is a huge plus. Excellent sensitivity, very good audio, fairly easy to use once you get the hang of it. Only things missing to make it perfect would be AGC speed selection, rf gain control, and of course synchronous detection. On MW listening the external antenna switch doesn't cut out the internal antenna so you're stuck with whatever local noise you might have. My work arounds are using the dx/local switch to cut down the rf gain a bit and just occasionally, on some signals that fade badly, you can use the SSB for ECCS reception. An excellent portable shortwave radio.
An excellent medium sized portable radio which works best with the included remote control. It's a superb bedside receiver. When used with a portable indoor active antenna (Sony AN-LP1) it will pick up stations from Nigeria, Brazil, Ecuador and Guatemala and many others. It's background noise is very low which makes listening to weak stations easy on the ears. The audio (treble and bass) controls give the best performance compared to other more expensive receivers. The only disadvantage is the poor performance of the fine tuning knob which must be rotated in short turns to raise or lower the frequency; this does not occur with the remote control. Tecsun S8800 SW radio
Nice radio good sound quality, fine tuning is precise, picks up a lot of stations in FM. I could not get much of anything SW indoors with the built in antenna. Maybe it will pick up something outside or with an external SW antenna. The treble nob is a bit loose and there is some side to side play. The others are tighter almost no play.
