Great tone, great playability, good price
I write with the caveat that I'm a guitar player still learning to play bass.
The first thing I noticed is that the edges of the frets are sharp - not really an issue for me, but maybe for others. The other thing I noticed is that for the first few days of playing it turned my fingers black. And the thick part of the neck near the body appears to be a second piece of wood glued to the first. I also had to figure out that I needed a 9 volt battery for the electronics; there are no instructions, and I initially mistook the battery holder for an AA holder.
Aside from tuning, I did not do any setup work; at the 12th fret, the E string is nearly 1/4" from the fretboard. Even with the action so high, it plays very well, and I was able to play Tom Sawyer the first day I tried. Bends and slides are relatively easy. None of the 21 frets buzzed on mine, although the action is set pretty high.
Acoustically, the tone is very bright with a solid low end. Amplified, it has a full sound, also very bright, but able to be toned down a bit with the eq. The electronics and eq work well, and I appreciate the fact that the battery can be changed without removing the strings.
Visually, I haven't noticed any imperfections in the finish, but the finish is very thick, giving it a glassy look.
Overall, the fit and finish issues are minor, and the playability and tone are much better than I expected of an instrument at this price. In fact, it plays so well and sounds so good I wonder if I didn't miss my calling as a bass player.
