Vortex Vipers are a very good choice.
This is a very high quality pair of binoculars in this price range. Very clear, and well made, fully guaranteed for life. I am upgrading from a previous pair of Vortex binoculars and while the older ones are still in good working order, these have been redesigned and have improvements. i hope to get good use of them birding.

Excellent choice for birding.
My main purpose for binoculars is birding, and my old pair of vortex diamondback binoculars worked very well. I just got a pair of 8x42 viper hds and the difference is huge. I highly recommend these binoculars, the image is incredibly crisp, clear, and true.
