I have 3 internal Nest Cameras in my home in various locations. All work well and have had no issues over the last year or so. Decided to the outside camera. The installation was super simple. Very long cord to start.. No need in my install to extend it. Next, the base is a 2 screw mount and the camera snaps right into place with a very strong magnetic hold. Came right up on my network as well. Picture is perfect even at night. I could not be happier at this point with the Nest. Worth both the expense to buy as well as the yearly $50 cost.

We have purchased 5 out door cameras and they work great. Picture quality is clear and crisp and the two way communication feature allows interface with visitors. Installation and set up is very straight forward and can be done by anyone knows which end of the screwdriver to use. With a good internet signal the cameras keep a constant vigil. The down sides are that the camera will sent a notification when just about anything changes in the frame such as a bug flying by or a light being turned on. The other down side and one mentioned in many reviews is that a subscription for the video recording treats each camera as separate billing and the bundling discounts are not a motivation to buy more cameras. For example if you have one camera the least expensive option is $50 a year with each additional camera costing another $30 a year in the bundle. Five cameras under this plan would cost $170 per year. The more expensive option is to buy the 30 day video package which is better than double the cost and exceeds the cost of a system that includes more features and better recording options.Read full review

First, let me qualify that I am a real Nest user, neither a robot nor a resident of some other continent. I live in Dallas, Texas, and I have years of surveillance video user experience. Trust me when I say that Nest is very good. The cloud recording is very affordable. The cameras are a little pricy, but I have managed to buy mine at below-retail rates, so I am sure you can, too. I have a 12-camera self-contained security surveillance camera system installed. (Brand name withheld from this discussion.) On this system, I have to maintain the video recordings and manage the available hard drive space. The cameras are very good, but the management of the system is rather complex and bothersome. I also have a home security system (by one of the best known brands) with remote monitoring. It does not interact with my other video system in any way, yet it also has two cameras attached to it, one doorbell camera and one indoor camera. I have a three-bedroom, two-bath house of less than 2,000 square feet of AC space. So you might think that 14 cameras in my rather small home would be enough, but the principle is that I always want a better view of some part of the house or its access avenues. I have a detached building in the back yard that is my wood shop and crammed full of expensive tools, so I worry about it a lot. One day I had the opportunity to buy two Nest cameras from a neighbor at half their retail price. I thought I needed only one, but I installed both, one at my shop and one for a better look at front-door visitors -- better than what I was getting from the little doorbell camera. Soon I realized that the two Nest cameras had become my preferred go-to cameras whenever I wanted to see what was going on around my property. Great video, very easy to use, and unbelievable recording software that is managed by Google Nest and NOT by me! This new Nest camera is my third, and it was purchased to provide an even more clear and easier-to-review view of my open carport, which is a very vulnerable spot. All modern cameras are good quality of varying costs. You might do well with any brand. The best feature of Nest is the continuous, 24-hour recording to the cloud. Like most security systems, Nest captures "events" such as motion and sound. But the best part is that I can play back the action and sounds that are recorded between events. The recording does not stop at the end of an event. I can review what happen prior to an event and after the close of an event. This continuous recording and playback system is priceless, and it costs me $5 per month for my group of all three Nest cameras. I love it!Read full review

The Nest Outdorr 1080p Security Camera is, in my opinion, the best homeowner level camera on the market. Easy to install, setup, and operate--the image is flawless and the camera's sensitivity is awesome. I like that I get alerts on my cell phone when the camera sees some acitivity, and the ability to archive video is gives my family a sense of well being. Great buy, fast shipping, and a great product.

Good video, day and night. The setup was a bit prolonged, as I had to provide a more powerful WIFI extender so the signal was received from the camera by our router. We were getting "Camera is Offline" messages frequently. Once that WIFI extender was functional, all is working well. I would recommend this product. Also, buy the Nest Aware subscription (whichever type you want) to keep the recording of events going after the free trial.

I have tried a momentum camera first which is ok for indoor well lite areas. It is also hard to get it to work the way you want. The nest was easy to set up it doesn't give many false alarms and works great at night! The wide angle lens is also helpful. I highly recommend this camera if you are looking for high quality and want to use it outside.

I'm a LEO and very big on keeping my family safe. I already had a Nest thermo and wanted an outdoor camera. This camera looked better than the ring camera and was very easy to set up. As long as you have a wifi signal it will connect instantly to your account and app. It also links up to ADT security system if you have one. HD quality and clear picture in the daytime or night. Instant notifications if anyone walks in camera view. The ability to store video clips and speak thru the camera is huge plus, I would highly recommend the Nest brand.

Excellent quality with outstanding picture quality. I wish the lag time was a little shorter but it's not too bad. The microphone is quite sensitive and can pick up conversations at a distance. The ability to converse with someone through the camera is clunkier than I expected, requiring one to activate the speaker, then speak, then hit "done" in order to listen. That's because the camera cannot send/receive audio and video simultaneously. The experience is more like using an intercom from the sixties than using your phone for a video chat. Again, not bad once you get used to it, but not quite what I thought it would be. Installation was easy and the 25-foot power cord was perfect for my location. A cordless camera would give a "cleaner" installation and more flexibility for placing the camera, but I'm happy with the trade-off because I don't want to worry about battery failure when I'm away for extended periods. Set-up couldn't be easier and I like the Nest app. All things considered, I'm a fan of my Nest camera and love the ability to keep an eye on things from a thousand miles away!.Read full review

Works great and is extremely easy to set up. The Nest suite makes home safety easy and effective. Video loads much faster than my previous Ring setup did.

I have had indoor Nest cameras for a while and this is my first outdoor version, since using the indoor version through the window and a screen has too many challenges. The set up is easy and the installation straight forward. For some odd reason it comes with two long wires that cannot be shortened and that are permanently attached at the camera and at the USB box and power plug. Depending on how far your outlet is from where you want to mount the camera, you have to drill a 3/4 in size hole to feed the USB outdoor plug through the wall, when the actual wire is small and skinny. you could also be left with a lot of spare cable that you will need to roll up and store out of sight - specifically if you use an outdoor outlet. I think this could be solved better with more flexibility with the wires - thats why I gave it just 4 stars. The other issue is the cost of subscribing to the cloud recording service. Every new camera comes with a few weeks of free cloud storage and you definitely would want that permanently, but with multiple cameras it is a costly service. I wish NEST/Google would offer a variety of subscription services at diff price levels that also offer lower priced offerings with shorter retention periods for residential homeowners. Google - do you read this?Read full review
