I need a backup camera to go with my 2012 Kia that I outfitted with a nice Kenwood DMX7707car stereo (see https://amzn.to/3ILa1dR) so I decided on a simple but effective option by using the license plate frame as the camera holder. The Metra camera was more than sufficient for this. It provided good vision when backing up with built in grid lines. I found that it weathered two Northeast winters before it stopped working so I had about 18 months of usage. I cannot compare this to other non-factory backup cameras but this seemed to be a fair usage. I would like to have expected more. I opted to replace the camera with the same model to avoid re-pulling the wires for another camera. I am unsure if the connection is the same for other replacement cameras thus I provided a pictures to help people in this decision. I have decided to gather another backup for the replacement and found other options as to where one can purchase these. I will monitor the replacement that was placed into service in March 2022 and update this review pending the longevity of the camera. Good luck to those with older cars!! Read full review

The price for this item was a great value. I enjoyed that I didn't need to cut holes for placing the camera. It mounts easily behind the license plate and bracket hides perfectly for a sleek clean look. I did have to make a hole in a rubber grommet to run the cable but other than that it was an easy install. The reason why I gave this a 4 stars over 5 is because if you have a license plate frame the camera points high and the parking/backing up assist lines are up in the air. I think this was an oversight that should have been designed better to extend the metal arm holding the camera a bit longer and then you can adjust the camera angle by bending it and the parking assist lines would not be up in the air. If your stereo comes equipped with parking assist lines you can cut a cable in the back up camera and use your stereos parking lines, instructions are in the product manual.Read full review

Just got my touchscreen unit installed with the Metra Back Up Camera. Looks great settled right behind the license plate. Amazing picture quality on the screen and turn out fine after taking thru the car wash multiple times. Definitely a good purchase for anyone.

While the one I ordered had issues, I have used this camera in the past and had good luck with it. High definition and accurate guide lines. Also looks way better than most aftermarket cameras

Behind license plate mount main reason for purchase. Camera works well and was easy to install. Was 100% compatible with my alpine receiver and a tremendous savings over alpine camera.
