Just what wanted
I have well water which has lime, iron, and sulfur in the water. I have a water softener to help take the minerals. Which the down side of water softeners is salt remands in the water. I wanted reduce my salt in take so to do that I would have to use water straight form my well and I would have by pass my water water softener. I reviewed several gravity water purifiers on the market. The Berkey water purifier I felt was the best value. I did the math buying the Berkey water purifier vs buying bottle water I will be able to pay for the Berkey water purifier in about one year and have clean fresh water for drinking and cooking for years to come. The Berkey water purifier filters out the lime, iron, and sulfur I have clean freash water all the time. Best thing I have bought for my family
We have very good water but I worry.... This takes the worry away. The extra black filters are extrodinarily expensive, over $50.00 each and you need 2 for my Berkey Travel however, they will last 3-4 years with the use I give them. The only other down side is it takes about 4-5 hours for a gallon to get through so you do have to plan and keep track. Pros: Unit works as it should, is easy to maintain and with the sight glass it's easy to know the fill level in the bottom section. this is a great product, the water produced by the black filters is a nice nuetral PH level. It works faster then I thought. also need to remember that you can't keep the reserve full and bottom full at the same time, the water will leak in the middle... Works well, after difficulty separating the two halves.
I wouldn't say this product is "better than expected" - your prompt interpreted my answers that way when I clicked Yes to it being compact, easy to operate, and easy to clean. Those are all expected features of any water filter. I hope this Berkey filter is as good as it is advertised to be. But I must say, unless I obtain a meter to measure the purity of the water, I am only going on faith! The filter arrived in its original box and packing. The only down side in receiving this product was, the top section was so firmly jammed into the bottom section that it took several sessions over a few days of trying everything I could think of to separate the two. I finally had to resort to spraying WD-40 all around the rim where the top section was wedged into the bottom, and then spend literally the next 15 minutes pushing and twisting the two halves apart. I did not want to use a toxic substance such as WD-40 to do this, but nothing else worked. Now that the filter is set up, it works well and the water tastes good. Cleans water well
It works. I get clean water. It takes it's time, I knew that before I bought it and decided to try it out before buying bigger one with more filters in it. I bought it for home use not for traveling to eliminate toxins (plastic, heavy metals and herb and pesticides in my daily life. Perfect water filter
I love my Berkey filter! Setup wasn't too bad, I'm not very mechanically inclined but I was able to figure out setup within maybe an hour or so (I had the fluoride filters as well, so it took a few cycles to clear out the white particles). Pure Water
I have a Berkey Royale for my house and we love it. My Mother lives in a very rural area and you could actually see the sediments collect at the bottom of a glass of (munincipal) water. Since having a Berkey, and the pure water it provides, I have become a 'water snob' so to say and ordered the Travel Berkey for Mom. It's the perfect size for one or two people and she loves it.
