It seems these smaller kerosene heaters (10,000 btu and below) are not designed well as the larger ones. It's difficult to replace the wick on this unit and has a strong odor while burning. We tried the rectangular model (9600 btu) as well and have similar complaints, but our old faithful 23,000 btu unit (at least 10 years old) is still kicking out (sometimes more than enough) heat with very little odor after a few (fairly easy) wick replacements.

This heater with its 99.9% heat generation from burning is the most efficient and cost effective source without the compressed natural gas or propane system which could blow up with a wrong bump or kids toy thrown at the wrong spot like a hose coupler.
