Covering monumental masterpieces rarely presented in other documentaries, the History Channel covered the first two-thousand years of Egyptian engineering feats. Several structural accomplishments now buried beneath the Nile river due to the newly created Nasser lake are presented in all their glory. Although rarely mentioned in public, part of the reason the new dam was created was to rid Egypt of the contractual obligations to Britain and Israel concerning the British built upper dam. Although nothing new is presented, the current status quo is very thoroughly documented as well as brilliantly illustrated. This is an excellent DVD worthy of a five star rating as long as you can stomach the presentations by Peter Weller. There are a few featurettes included in the DVD with one entitled 'a little ego.' It was referring to Mr. Weller and believe me, it does not even come close to covering it. This self proclaimed expert dotes on himself in the extreme and more arrogantly than any of the Pharaohs possibly could of themselves. Perhaps it was just an acting job, but if so, the History Channel should have chosen a different angle to portray their representative.Read full review
The history of how the Egyptians built the pyramids is amazing. Egypt is involved with the content that I teach. Using the visual of the engineering behind this ancient civilization gives the students an chance to have an idea of how the pyramids were built. It is also a very reliable source.
Very informative and relaxing to watch. Narrated by Peter Weller, he does a great job of teaching about Egypt and the Pharos that ruled. Beginning at the earliest times of Egypt, moving through time and exploring all the accomplishments each Pharos achieved. A great documentary, well worth the money.

I bought this to use in my 6th grade classroom during our ancient Egypt studies. It is long, but very well done and the students enjoyed it. A lot of the video reinforced topics we had discussed in class.
I had caught some of this on the History channel but missed a lot of it so I decided to purchase it since it was a good deal on ebay. If you enjoy documentaries and history of building in Egypt, you would definitely enjoy this dvd. Was well done and you can tell a lot of work went into making it very interesting.
