After more than twenty years with the Dewalt Miter saw it was time for an upgrade and I didn’t even think about switching brands. Day in and day out this saw is a workhorse that simply gets the job done. It’s easy to use and adjust. The double bevel slide is a really nice feature but I mostly just need the extra slide for joist and beam work. We setup the Dewalt table and this bad boy and that’s all you need for framing and finishing. It’s heavy, you will know you picked up a saw when you move this. That said, it ain’t going to jump around when you’re cutting. At the end of the day we need our tools to work hard, work right and last. This saw has all of those qualities.

Runs smooth and seems to have ample power. Dust bag is effective but protrudes too far requiring a lot of space. Arrived well calibrated and easy to set up. The extension arms are fixed so they are minimal help. Clamp is a great idea but seems a little flimsy. Has no laser and the kit costs $70. In conclusion, I was able to purchase this saw on sale for $225 which I think is a good deal but I would not have payed the $375 retail price.

Just used it once so far- It was square and plumb right from the box, nice! I haven't used it enough to give it a full review, but so far seems great. One fairly important con is that it does appear to come with a 32 tooth blade- even Dewalt advises to use a higher tooth blade than that (why include something even they don't recommend?) Also, it is a little heave, but it does seem to cut the whole extention accurattly..

One thing I would recommend is installing a shadow light kit that casts a led light down over the blade leaving an exact shadow line where your cut will be it even shows the width of the tooth kerf for very accurate cutting. I believe it’s more accurate than a laser because it is not subject to being knocked out of adjustment. The entire shadow light kit is available on line for under 100.00 kit includes, shadow light, wiring harness , power supply and new handle . I believe this modification makes the model 779 into a780 which costs at least 150.00 more hope this helps.

The DWS779 is a beast. Operation is simple and easy to use. At approx. 67 lbs, it surely isn't isn't light weight so if you're short, make sure you have help carrying this thing or go out and start lifting weights. I haven't used it yet but am looking forward to trying this thing out.
