This part can wear out because it is made of plastic, it should last at least 5 years. You would replace this if your washer wont go into spin mode or if you have a maytag bravos it will give you SD or a UL code. The easy way to test if this part has gone is to hold the washer tub at the top with one hand and try to move the pulsator (wash plate agitator) with your other hand. If you can move it then your hub has worn out. Remove your agitator first with a 7/16” socket and remove the 6 Philips screws from the hub. You will have one of two types. One has a small cog underneath the hub that wears out, and this hub is just the hub and a peg that goes through it once installed. Easy fix for the machine owner
