Great little player that is the perfect size for practicing on the couch or traveling. Easy to play and has a great vintage tone that really lends itself to the delta and country blues sounds of the early 20th century...especially when playing it in a fingerpicked style. This one is based on the original "Rex" models of the 30's - 50's, that really has the original look and feel of that era. Its a "parlor style" guitar meaning it has a short-scale neck (only 12 frets accessible) and is smaller overall from that of a typical dreadnought. While you don't get the full sound of a typical dread, the projection and sustain this instrument produces is very impressive with great bass and mids. The construction and fret work is solid and seems to be better than a lot of guitars that come out of Asian factories. The finish is not much to write about, but looks nice with its matte satin finish over the vintage sunburst color. The tuning machines look to be recreations of the originals with the open gears and look somewhat cheap, but seem to hold the tuning very well. For the money (*less than the cost of good effects pedal), this little fiddle is a lot of fun and is great for all skill levels. Gretsch has always been a respected name in the world of music and they did not disappoint here. Read full review

I got this guitar to be my office guitar so I wouldn't have to bring my expensive axes to work. It sounds good for an all laminate guitar. It's very comfortable since it's small and it projects pretty good despite its size. The action is almost just right, I'll probably bring it to a tech sometime and have it adjusted, but for now it feels okay. All in all, fantastic value and great little guitar to jam with.

Few guitars of this parlor size have the range and tone projection that this Jim Dandy does. It's truly a joy to play. I tune it down in double drop D and it get's that eery Appalachian twang and sounds awesome. I love it. I putan old Bill Lawrence pickup in it and it captures the sound I'm looking for. Very nice.

Nice guitar and you can't beat the price. It's similar to the old Stella parlor guitars the old blues guys played. Gypsy jazz chords sound really cool on it, too. The use of laminate wood, which some would see as a negative, as opposed to solid wood makes it more stable in changing weather conditions. That in addition to it's small size, make it a great travel, camping and just having handy guitar.

I bought as a gift for a well practiced musician who wanted something to tote around while camping or playing on the porch. For it’s size, it feels and sounds great. She has no complaints and loves it. Highly recommend.
