This textbook is the 4th math text out of 8 textbooks which complete the mathematics subject for the Robinson Curriculum. The 2nd edition is the best for it's combined benefit of hardcover (as with the 1st edition) and the lesson prompts indicated in the problem sets for earlier reference (as with the 3rd edition).
It is a complete instructional textbook that formally and thoroughly teaches and reinforces the building blocks of mathematics. Ssxon 87 is a clear and concise hardbound book made of 120 lessons with intermittent stimulating challenges called: Investigations. It covers, in depth, the study of circular geometry, decimals, fractions, coordinate planes, 2 step word problems, graphing equations, measurements, probability, pythagorean theorem, introducing algebraic problems, etc. and thoroughly reviews principles already taught in the previous books.
I enjoy seeing my kids happily opening the textbook and then in an hour presenting their corrected journals at the end of each lesson, and often this is the 2nd lesson for the day!
Have a great time with this comprehensive system of mastering mathematics and forward it to future kiddos who want to excel in this subject as well.

The instruction and examples in each set is clear and helpful. There are an abundance of practice problems and your student may not need to complete every problem. Be aware that there are no answers in the book itself.
I like Saxon Math (the pre common core versions) because it reviews the previous concepts and continues. It gives lots.of practice for all concepts previously learned.
