This is an excellent "Greatest Hits" compilation from an often overlooked 1970's British glam/rock band. "Ballroom Blitz", "Little Willy" & "Love is like Oxygen" will probably be the three songs that you may be familiar with from the radio, but there is so much more to this cd. "Teenage Rampage" is perhaps the finest song from this band...and the awesome lead guitar work and the 'sweet' and seductive lyrics on the hooky sing-all song "Wig-Wam Bam" will have you boppin' your head side-to-side while playing air guitar! If you love good guitar work, cool lyrics delivered in a unique way then you'd may wanna consider adding this to your collection.

It was very surprising how many of these 60s and 70s songs were memorable. Their early hits were bubblegum fluff ("Little Willie, willie won't go home") but then they hit a rocker groove. "Fox on the Run" and "Ballroom Blitz" are now staples of Classic Rock stations. And then there's "Love is like Oxygen" - not sure quite where that fits except on the rock request hour. The rest of the songs weren't familiar to me, but they held their own between the Top 40 hits. These 4 guys harmonize very well together and that makes their unique sound. SWEET is touring again. (I don't know how many originals are still with the band.) They were at the Moraga Indian Reservation east of L.A. in August 2008, and will join Asia and Great White at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego in October.
This is a nice little retrospective of many of the hit tunes this under-appreciated band is best known for. An update of the liner notes would be nice since both Brian Connolly and Mick Tucker have passed away since this album was released-perhaps newer editions exist? Either way, Steve, Andy, Mick and Brian are as good to listen to now as they were 35 years ago. This album serves as reminder of what makes for a solid rock and roll experience: solid musicianship, tight harmonies, lyrical talent and an abundance of attitude. Sweet had it all.
It's not all their best songs and has a lot unfamiliar songs. Like most "best of" CDs. If you are looking to rip songs for your MP3 player your best value is Time Life collections by decades or best of "50s 60s, 70s, 80s" one off compilations. There is a "Early Girls" collection as well. These are a fairly good source for the songs you want and have many of songs you can't find other wise. This is the most cost effective way. Then find "best of" CDs for your favorites.
