    Awesome steel anvil

This is a real steel anvil for under $150, it has good bounce and a nice ring to it, I bought it to see if they were any good so I could recommend them to students, and I have to say you will not find a better anvil for less money. My only complaint is that this company makes a 70 kilo/110 lb anvil that I’ve seen some Canadians using, but they don’t seem to sell them in the us or on eBay, if they had the 110 lb anvil for $200-$300 shipped I would be ecstatic in my praise for it based on its smaller brother, at 66 lbs this anvil will do a lot and is better then no anvil, however if you want to do bigger work with bigger hammers the 110 lb would be better. Don’t hesitate to buy any anvil of this type, they are well worth the money.

  • Top critical review

It works but will be replaced

For starters it came in at 61 pounds via NIST traceable scale. Almost 10% less weight than described. Secondly it’s soft steel. It’s not supposed to be hardened because striking a hardened object with another hardened object can result in cracking and chipping, BUT, it Doesn’t even appear to be tempered. A gentle swing leaves a dent. A missed full swing does fairly significant damage. Finally the horn came with a smashed over tip because it was shipped in a just-big-enough box with no padding or securing whatsoever. The picture is after an hour of use

  • Nice price for a piece of metal

The price is way more than fair for this much steel, compared to all other options out there. I knocked off one star because there is a lot of work to be done on it before it is very usable. But I knew that when I ordered it. The anvil arrived in only a few shreds of a box left, but the item was still ok. I was concerned about the paint used, so I did strip it off. I did not want to be breathing in unknown fumes caused by hot metal vaporizing it. Instead, once stripped I coated it all in rust converter. Make a very tough black finish that is way better than the way it came. The horn needs to be ground smooth to be useful and it took quite a bit of grinding to make it happen. There is no way to get all of the pits out without losing too much metal, but I got it to be satisfactory. The casting on the sides is rather laughable. ACCHIO is optimistic, as the A was nothing but a blob. Still, this does not affect function. All of the edges needed work but the top was nice and smooth and did not need much work. As small as this anvil is, you will need to mount it well. I fabricated some simple brackets and mounted it to a log. It is much more solid now. Bottom line: If you don't mind some work this anvil can be a usable small anvil for smaller projects, knife making, or a great beginner anvil.

  • Don’t let anyone tell you this anvil isn’t good enough

They had an issue with shipping and I had to wait almost 2 weeks longer than “guaranteed by” date, but I understand with the coronappocolypse chaos at the moment. Nonetheless this anvil is fantastic. Had to do some dressing on it and smoothing the horn of course. Literally does ring like a bell but a well placed magnet takes care of that. It has great rebound and I have beat the hell out of it every day for the last week and still has no significant blemishes. Very much a pleasure to use. If you’re a beginner please don’t pay big bucks on anything else right away because this anvil is all you’ll need for a long time.

  • ROUGH casting

It is exactly what I expected based on all the research I did before hand. A very rough casting, horn needed that awful paint stripped off and time with the grinding wheel and flap disks to get it serviceable. Hardy hole only needed a few minutes with a file. One side bulged out further than the face so more time with grinder and flap disks. Edges wandered a bit so I cleaned them up before radiusing them. But it's got 85% rebound and I did some gravity hammer drops on it without leaving a mark. Rang like a bell even after I secured it to the stand but a couple magnets took care of that. All told, maybe 2hrs worth of work to get it usable (I'm slow and careful with the angle grinder) and I've been really happy with it. Only got like 15hrs of use so far but it feels like it will go the distance. A huge step up from both the 50lb piece of mild and the rr track anvil I was using. For comparison, I probably had 15+ hrs into the rail anvil getting it flattened and shaped with horn and prichel.

  • Great anvil for price per pound

The bad: Received in mangled box, horn protruding. But anvil was fine. Mostly. A lot of casting flaws will need repair and pritchett/hardy holes need a lot of cleaning One face edge is not straight rings like crazy - mount to help deaden the ring. The good: Update: I received my hardness testers and the face tested above rockwell 50 The face is ground, so mostly flat. a good polish should help. Price per pound. Weight for portability. rings like crazy so not cheap iron. might be cheap carbon steel but not cheap iron like the harbor freight anvils. Summary Overall price per pound for quality is good and this is a step up from RR track anvils or ALO(anvil like objects). I see one side that looks like they took a grinder to it and caused the face to be uneven. But honestly at $2/lb for a hard faced portable anvil, approved.

  • Overall a good starter anvil.

Cons.Packaging wasn't done too well. The horn has a lot of pitting in it that needs to be addressed. Hardy hole wasnt to size. But overall with a little prepping and grinding it will do for a good starter anvil. Pros. Good price for that much steel. Goid ring and bounce to it. Good weight for small to medium projects. Fast shipping. Awesome price!

  • Nice anvil for the money!

Needed a small anvil to go with a portable forge for taking around to demos, small projects at job sites, etc. So far the 30 kg seems plenty durable. Horn needs cleaning up as casting is somewhat rough but easily done with angle grinder. Pritchel is pretty useless for punching due to bad location (on horn instead of sole) but I have a dodge for that. Otherwise, you can't go wrong for the money.

  • Good Anvil for the price !

Decent anvil for the price, the horn must be ground to the proper shape and to smooth the casting, as its pretty rough, but overall its a decent size and great for a starter. The box it came in is extremely light cardboard with no padding - and the heel had gone through the side of the box receiving some minor damage to the tip of the heel, nothing that can’t be ground / worked , but a shame it’s just rattling around in the paper box..

  • Great investment. Solid Anvil.

Good solid anvil for a beginner or pro. Good room to work on my projects. Tested it and I got a nice ring and 90% rebound. No marks or dings on the anvil. It arrived and was packaged well. Just need to clean it up. The face was coated and protected. The Hardy Hole and Pritchel Hole are done well. Both of them come out the bottom to the outside. For an anvil for the price they ask, is a good deal. Shipping was fast.
