I listened to the unabridged version of The Testament on audio. The narration and the story are both excellent. The story is fresh and original. This is by far the best novel by John Grisham in my opinion. As morals in literature are becoming muddied by relativism in this post-Christian age, The Testament rises out of the ashes with wings of fire. With the typical suspense drive of Grisham's court room thrillers comes a novel that recaptures the spirit of the classics, such as It’s a Wonderful life and A Christmas Carol. It raises questions about the real meaning of life, the mad pursuit of money and the lust for pleasure and power. A word of warning to the faint of heart, it is does not always paint a pretty picture and some of it may be painful to listen to. I am a Christian and maintain a Christian worldview; I think Grisham is Presbyterian. Not all of his books seem to reflect a Christian worldview with satisfying closure (i.e. A Painted House). Sadly, many books project a negative attitude towards Christians and many authors express very little knowledge of Christianity at all. Here, not only does Grisham paint a wonderful picture of this Christian missionary woman, but at its heart it is essentially a story of redemption. It is a genuine work of art. It is the best in entertainment that is both inspiring and and challenging. Bravo, Mr Grisham.Read full review
I really enjoyed this book. It kept my interest and it's not one I will soon forget. The Testament was thought provoking regarding positions of wealth and poverty. The main character's search for Rachel Lane took him to distant and unknown places, with new experiences at every turn. He learned valuable life lessons and grew as a person. The story didn't end as I thought it would.
I love the story and the narrator Frank Muller. I bought this set of tapes because I wore out my old set of The Testament by listening to it over and over again.
