  • A must in cold weather. (if your's is broken)

Right, I never drove a Passat with this type of aux heater before, well I have, because mine was broken when I bought it, so I didn't know what to expect. This was night and day, even when it's really cold, (coldest so far has been -17c) it starts blowing "warm" air almost immediately, so this thing really works. Being an efficient diesel, it idles itself cold, aka it won't produce enough heat to maintain engine temperature at an idle, even at around -10c, and it even struggles to maintain the engine temp at a 80 kph cruise in 6'th gear. So an AUX heater is a must. I also have a webasto, but the need to use that is alot smaller with this unit. Ps, I changed the thermostat last year. I've heard that these heaters tend to brake relatively frequently, and it's the electronics that fail. I can believe that, Mine was broken, but I OHM'ed then heating element, and it was fine. The used replacement part I got, had wrecker paint on it, but was relatively clean. It took about 15 minutes to install, since I had already loosened the wires and taken the old unit in/out. Is a bit of an hassle to install since it sits smack down in the middle of the dash board, but it CAN be done without dismantling the center console too much. Though, in my case it cost a few clips and retainers. I don't think this can be retrofitted easily, this is for cars that come factory fitted with one.
