"Agatha Christie's Miss Marple: The Complete Collection" is wonderful! Beautifully remastered, these are the very best adaptations of the Miss Marple stories. The later series, although featuring good performances, seriously strayed from the books, but these are true to Christie's works. In Joan Hickson we find the definitive Miss Marple, exactly as she is portrayed in the original stories. Splendidly filmed with attention to detail (the Marple stories take place in post WWII England, around the 1950s) these episodes are a delight. Good but scratched
This is an excellent rendition of Christie's Miss Marple... Well acted and true to the books. But the quality control of the disc manufacturer must be poor, because the discs are scratched and they skip. Wonderful production values!
Am very happy with this purchase. The DVDs are good quality, have good sound and are a great value. I am also reading the Miss Marple books, so it’s been fun comparing the details of Agatha Christie’s original stories with the video productions. Miss Marple on DVD
Agatha Christie is, without a doubt, in my opinion, the most interesting and prolific Crime Story Arthur of them all. This particular collection( Miss Marple the complete collection/ Joan Hickson) contains all 12 Miss Marple Adventures written by Miss Christy herself. The media itself has been remastered so when you actually get into Miss hickson's performance there are no distractions. The colors come across as balanced as they should be. It's the same with the sound; there are no sudden volume increases/ decreases. Miss hickson's performance is as effortless as could be. She doesn't seem to be acting at all. It's incredible to watch her Glide from scene to scene. Anybody interested in Agatha Christie should get this DVD set. I've had no trouble with the discs not playing. It’s all that, and more
I was a bit concerned about quality after reading some reviews of other BBC DVD’s, from other sellers, especially as the original (1980’s) production quality of this show wasn’t the best. Plus, it was a gift for a rabid Agatha Christie fan who is very opinionated about every tv adaptation. There was no need to worry! The quality is great, and the gift was a great success. Excellent!
This set of 3 videos contains the whole series with Joan Hickson. She plays a wonderful Jane Marple. In fact, every segment includes beautifully cast members. I love this "time period" and the scenery, props, locations are phenomenal. Contains subtitles, but they don't necessarily follow what is being said exactly. In addition, although there are duplicates from other Miss Marples, these hold up on their own and were very entertaining. I highly recommend them. Miss Marple Always Gets It RIght
The complete collection of the Miss Marple stories with Joan Hickson (who was the BEST Miss Marple) is most enjoyable. Agatha Christie's character really comes alive with Ms. Hickson's performances. The other characters in all 12 of the films are so well-portrayed by the actors that I can close my eyes and remember when I first read Agatha Christie's stories and visualize what I thought they would look like, sound like and act like.
