excellent author continuing a long running story, yet each book stands on its own merits

This Dresden novel did not appeal to me as much as the others in the series mainly due to the fact that Harry is a spirit or ghost. Not to say I didn't enjoy the book, I did. It just took me longer to get into the story. The entire time, I wanted to read the last few pages to see if Harry would be okay in the end. I didn't, and I won't spoil the book for anyone. I am a die hard Dresden fan, I just prefer when Harry is living, breathing, and slinging soul fire. The end did surprise me and I am anxious to see where the series goes next and how Harry's friends and city are surviving after his death. (?)
Again Jim Butcher has written a wonderfully exciting book! I can relate to how the author writes not in laymen terms as much as the laymen and learned alike may enjoy the subject matter. I have just recently (Dec 2013) become a Harry Dresden follower. I have to date read all the Dresden files, including the just released Skin game And it's just Aug 2014. I can only hope The Dresden Files are a project for decades to come for Mr. Butcher. Thanks for the outlet from a crazy busy world
Jim Butcher goes above and beyond the call of duty again. Just like many of the previous Dresden Files books, this one is fast paced and very very witty. It will hook you and drag you, laughing all the way, through its' pages! Though Dresden is a ghost and cannot use his magic in the story, it still remains very entertaining as he learns his way around the spirit realm. The story is close to overflowing with pop culture references that will have you laughing out loud, especially if you're in the mid 30's to mid 40's age range. Younger readers may not catch some of the references, but I don't see that it will detract from the enjoyment of the book. I definitely recommend this book, especially if you felt let down by "Changes", this one makes up for it, and more!
I love Jim Butcher and Dresden Files but.. this book flowed so slowly,,, I was a hundred pages in before Harry's spirit even was able to talk to a old friend or start trying to get help.. it was almost like Jim Butcher went back to the very beginning of the Dresden files because he made up all these new creatures and explained them.. in to much depth.. it took away from his normal fast flowing exciting books. FOR ME ANYWAY.. In the past Jim's books were exciting and wickedly fun this was like a ghost. slow and drab. And the ending oh. Left me right Were we started. I won't give up any more but This is like a whole new beginning for Harry Dresden and I like the old Harry and his troubles as a Human on the RUN..!
I simply love the Dresden Files series. Wonderfully written, witty, sarcastic, and a blast to read!
