In my case, the spring that holds the claw against the inside of the gear had broken and was the source of my problem. This kit contains every part associate with that function so no extra parts needed. Might want to a picture of all the parts in their positions before you remove them. There is also videos of disassembly/reassembly available that will help. Very straight forward job to do. I drained the oil, took everything apart, thoroughly cleaned everything and replaced all the old parts with new parts from the kit even though all my old parts except for the claw spring looked good. Refilled with 14 oz. of 75W-140 differential oil and buttoned everything up. The original oil was probably 300 weight but I used the heaviest stuff I had.

This is a great repair kit for a stripped nylon gear in the transmission and with a little bit of research, a few tools and some mechanical ability a costly repair can be repaired using this kit. It comes with assembly instructions and parts to repair this section of the direct drive washer transmission on select models of Whirlpool and Kenmore washers.

This fixed the problem where the spin cycle started before the tub was drained. I tried replacing the timer first but that didn't fix it. You will need a tub nut removal tool to get the tub out in some applications where the transmission does not remove from the bottom. Youtube had some helpful videos to explain the process. I had worked on this washer the year before and replaced the tub seal and shaft seal, so I did not have to do that again. I lubricated the rubber seals with Danco silicone grease. I recommend Permatex Ultra Black for the transmission cover gasket. I reused the original transmission oil. I didn't have to drain it.

I use three of them they work perfectly it was only one thing about this kit that raised my eyebrow. The steel plate that hold s the two plastic catches and the flyway was not smooth like polished metal it was rough almost like sandblasted. Which means it will wear on the gear underside surface.

Plastic gear and parts are identical to original. Use synthetic gear oil. The cheaper non-synthetic smells really bad when it heats up. The part works if that’s your problem.
