A lot of people were turned off from this novel by James Patterson and Andrew Gross due to it being of the Historical Fiction genre. You are doing yourself a dis-service though, by not taking a chance on this fine novel! In all honestly I didn't realize it was historical fiction, the name on the cover pulled me in. When I found out it was set during the time of the Crusades (sigh) I figured well what the heck let's try it. Boy was I in for a treat! This story has it all: Tragedy, adventure, romance, evil men doing evil deeds, an unlikely hero disguised as a harmless jester, merry men who band together. Truly an old fashioned adventure story. The blurb on the back of the book doesn't touch the great story within, in fact it makes it sound one-dimensional and not very interesting. I'm glad for my mistake, I found a keeper in my opinion.Read full review
Best James Patterson book imo. Only one I have read twice.

This book was highly reconmended to me. The story sounds fascinating and as I get in to it I think it will be as good as my friend said. James Patterrson is one of my most favorite authors and if this book is as good as all the rest of his books that I have read then it will be a keeper !
I could not put this book down until I had completely reading. It is a definite must read. I won't spoil it for you by giving any details, but it is a heart wrenching book about love, honor, freedom, and fighting for what rightfully belongs to you. You will get revenge, a history lesson or two, and learn a few new jokes along the way! If you have not read this yet, then let this be the next JP book you pick up.
Kind of like a "Pillars of the Earth" lite. Not as good, but still worth the time.
