ReviewsBook Review: Cleopatra, Ruling in the Shadow of Rome"The people come to life through lively descriptions of their personalities. Full-color photographs of the art, architecture, and artifacts of this time period enhance understanding. The Internet address for a regularly updated online list of Web sites is included. A fascinating choice for research."--Lana Miles, Duchesne Academy, TXSchool Library JournalSeries Review: Leaders of Ancient Egypt"For reports on prominent leaders of ancient Egypt, these biographies offer a unique perspective. Citing specific stelae, carved inscriptions on public buildings and statues, and tomb decorations, Thomas attempts to piece together the scarce and scattered bits of information archaeologists have discovered about each pharaoh's personality, domestic life, and accomplishments. Detailed indexes enrich the value of these texts..."--Ann G. Brouse, Steele Memorial Library, NY School Library Journal

SynopsisAs the Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra tried to preserve her country's independence in the midst of a Roman civil war. She was romantically involved with both Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, who fought each other for control of the empire. She sided with Mark Antony and did not survive his defeat. With Cleopatra's death, Egypt became a Roman province and the era of the pharaohs came to an end.
