This game is a classic PS1 game. It is important because it was more or less the first real "dungeon crawler"-type RPG. The game's story is rich, if abit too linear. The cinematics are impressive for the era. Character creation is intuitive. Dynamic item systems allow advanced players to find better and better items as they progress, and a wide variety of spells are availabe to all character classes. 80 different mobs in primitively randomized but vibrant environments increase massively in power and challenge as the game progresses. Camera work is excellent, with objects that fade out when the character would be obscured. controls are logical and precise. This game's engines were used in the creation of perhaps the most well-known dungeon crawler, blizzard entertainment's "Diablo". This is a collector's game, however. It really can be addictive and fun, but it goes on freaking forever and forces you to start over repeatedly if you want to get to the more challenging difficulty levels. It is overall a good game, but n008s will find it too complicated and casual gamers will find it requires too much playing time. Peace, the fox-manRead full review
We had this game for the PC a long time ago and when I stumbled upon it on Ebay for the Playstation I decided to purchase it. We have the PS2 and I quickly found out that you must purchase a PS one memory card to use with the PS One games in order to save when using them on the PS2. The graphics on this game are a little worse then I remember but the game is still pretty much the same. It is an RPG Adventure game and you can choose from many characters each with strengths and weaknesses. One really good thing is that you can save these characters so if you get one leveled up really high you can use them in a new game. The game scenery, dungeons and monsters change with each game so you never play exactly the same game twice. Unfortunately, there are only 2 save game slots.
It was like stepping backwards into my teenage years again love this game will beat it again and again 😁😁

It's fun and dark, and has a really good theme song: darkstone will shine. The graphics could be better ,but the cut scenes are really well done.

This is the game that made me fall in love with RPG type games. I bought this game for my son's birthday, but I played it much more than he did! It's a PS1 game, so I can't say the graphics are wonderful, but the story is awesome. What I love most about this game is that no matter how many times I play it, my adventure is a little different each time. There are several different adventures to go on, and the game swithches it up a little every time you start a new game. I played this game for hours. I even stayed up all night playing when I knew I had to get up to go to college the next day. Yes, there are games out now that are better in terms of graphics, but Darkstone will forever be my favorite game of all time. It sold over a million copies for Sony, so I am disappointed that it was never followed up by a sequel. With the graphic capabilities out now, it was be mind-blowing for me to play an updated version of this game. Since it doesn't look like that it is going to happen, I will stick with what I have. I am now on my 3rd copy. I've worn the others out.Read full review
Playing this on PS2, and basically game plays well. Played this after finishing Diablo1 - this is definitely Diablo-lite. Good graphics, sound okay. Many similarities to Diablo. One major problem is game designed for two characters, but PS version only has 1 character. Had to stop playing when got to quest that needed two characters to enter dungeon - no way to continue game (should have fixed this when porting game! - can;t forgive them for this). Kills what otherwise is a good game. More D&D-like than Diablo. Overall, would have been a good game with bugs fixed. Stick with Diablo.
The concept of the game isn't bad. What IS bad is everything else. The Music and sound are bad. Period. the Playability is terrible, not because it's hard, it's easy, but at the same time tedious because you roam around looking for fights to level up, and after awhile you get tired of killing the same 2 or 3 villains. The real failure of this game is the graphics. An Epic poem could be written, explaining the depths of suckness these graphics acheive...honestly it feels Atari, and not in an old school hipster kinda way! I took this game to a Gamestop (local game reseller) and they would not take it. I didn't even argue with the guy. He was right. The game is worthless.
Good price and good game works great. :-)
