This was a pretty lame movie with little plot and a bit of a hook at the end. In all, it was a whole lot about nothing. Johnny Depp plays Frank Tupelo, an American tourist on vacation from Wisconsin in Venice, Italy. Angelina Jolie is Elise, and she is being watched by British officials who want her ex-boyfriend for a lot of different reasons, but mostly for taxes. She is trying to meet up with her former boyfriend, Alexander Pierce, who is on the lamb from a gangster. It seems that Alexander was this guys money man and helped himself to somewhere around two billion pounds of this guy's money, then vanished. If he did rip off two billion pounds, he owes the Crown it's share, about L844M pounds in taxes! Elise gets a message from Alexander to take the train to Venice, and on the way pick out someone similar looking to him as a diversion for the police. She picked Frank Tupelo and that is how this movie started. In Venice she winds up taking Frank to her hotel, where thugs working for the gangster show up, and almost kill Frank. This develops into a constant three way chase, with the British chasing Elise, thinking that Frank was Alexander. As it turns out, Elise was a Government agent too, under cover. But she had fallen in love with Alexander, and now had mixed allegiances. The gangsters close in on her thinking that she will lead them to Alexander and the money. The British wind up shooting the Gangster and his men, and chasing someone else who they believe to be Alexander Pierce. Frank turns out to be Pierce, and leaves a check for the British for the taxes due. Now they have no other reason to chase him.Read full review
I'd curated a film collection of "Perfect Crimes/Imperfect Criminals" for a class that I'll teach in fall. This one just shot to the top of my list for the fabulous plot twists and the magical tension between Depp & Jolie. This was quite Oscar worthy but that year was just too tight.

I'm not a fan of Johnny Dep, but he's lots of fun in this movie. Angelina Jolie is engagingly beautiful, and there are only a couple of surprises..... yet, I enjoyed the film enough to actually add it to my extensive library. The scenery is captivating, and the locations were well worth the trip. The plot is a little bit weak, but it was still a good romcom and I will enjoy it again when I want to watch something light, entertaining, and a good bit of fun.

You would think a movie with these two would be awesome. But sadly, it falls short of what we all expected. I absolutely love Johnny Depp...my husband, of course, loves Angelina Jolie. So we were both looking forward to watching this. Although it was far from terrible and we did enjoy it, it certainly could have been better than it was. The storyline was great, it simply wasn't executed very well on-screen. The scenery was beautiful, as was Angelina, but there was zero chemistry between her and Depp. Maybe I've just gotten so accustomed to seeing him as Jack Sparrow, a very animated character who is nothing but pure entertainment on the screen, that this character as a 'real person' was destined to fall short. Would I recommend this movie? Of course. Would I want to see the two of them paired up again? Absolutely not.Read full review
This is a movie that has surprising twists and turns that entertain and put the viewer on the edge of their seat. If you like adventure with a bit of old fashioned romance, this is the movie for you. It is a softer, subtle movie that does no lack action but mimics movies of old that actually have a plot instead of nudity, and vulgarity.
