Sometimes you take a chance that is purely dependent on reviews and "best of" list... they weren't wrong about the BG 3500! The smoothness, balance, and quality assembly make it my new go-to reel. Out of the box, this reel will do an empty spool retrieve just rotating your wrist while holding the reel. The Black and Gold finish is beautiful and sleek. I will buy another! Be blessed.. Very smooth well built reel. I like the handle on the 3500 as my hands are large. This reel is a little heavier than what I have been using but that extra weight balances my rods much better. If you're a comparison shopper like I am, and and avid fisherman you've probably seen other comparisons between the BG and the Penn Battle ii. That's because these are the two absolute best spinning reels for the money. Period. Here's the difference. The Penn feels slightly better built in hand. Probably because its much heavier and the bail on the Penn is thicker. Does this mean the Penn is better built? Probably not. And the less weight of the BG is nice. The only other difference is the BG is noticeably smoother. You can make the BG spin by moving it in your hand without touching the handle. It's smooth and effortless!
